Timeless

Something timeless in The Pardoner's Tale is the lesson that you should treat your elder's with respect. On lines 167 to 169 the old man states, "Do no more harm to an old man than you, Being now young, would have another do When you are old". This kind of ideology is still definitely present today. For example, my parent have always raised me to respect those who are older than me, especially the elderly, such as my grandparents. There are also government funded aids to help the elderly like health insurance or food stamps. Even on the public transit, there are special seats reserved specifically for the elderly. As such, many examples are present today where the elderly are respected and tended to. Any child who would dare to speak roughly to an elder, present day, would be scolded.

  1. I do agree with you, having a good moral to follow and pass it on from generation to generation is great, like respecting your elders. I love how you mention public transportation as an example of where this courtesy is shown. Sometimes you do have your rude teenagers sitting down when there is a sixty-five year old grandma standing in front of him. It;s only common courtesy to offer your seat to an older person, or let them cut you in the line at the supermarket.

  2. I agree with you that the principle of respecting you elders is a timeless example of respect. In today's culture as well as past elder's have always been given a certain level of respect and power. I feel this comes from the fact the since elders have much more experience in life then the youthful they are given more respect and considered wise regardless of their life and life style.

  3. I like how you are aware of today's examples of respecting your elders such as the giving up your seat on public transportation and government programs. Respecting your elders is a timeless lesson and will continue on for generations to come.
